Reading the Bible through Jesus

Reading the Bible through Jesus

What do you want to see in the Bible? The Bible is indeed filled with many facts and truths, but it is much more than that. The Bible is the truth and the living Word of God. Thus, reading the Bible is always a blessing and beneficial to us.

What does the Bible say about itself? In 2 Timothy 3:15-17, it states, "How from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work."

Wisdom for salvation is what all human beings, who are sinners, need the most. The Bible provides this wisdom and is therefore precious to our hearts and minds. The divine book introduces Christ Jesus to us, so we may believe in him and be saved. Furthermore, it helps us grow and become competent and equipped for every good work by showing us Jesus, the true man of God, and conforming us to his image.

Jesus himself confirms this in John 5:39, saying, "You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me."

As we read and meditate on the Bible, we hope that the Holy Spirit, its author, will enable us to know Jesus as intended, and that we may have the unspeakable delight of finding and enjoying Jesus Christ, the most precious treasure of our lives, in the book, just as two disciples going to Emmaus experienced in Luke 24, where it says, "And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, [Jesus] interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself. ... They said to each other, 'Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?'"
